As with all of our lasercut greeting cards, the exquisite lasercut artwork is printed in full colour on the inside, outside, front and back! Each card includes a beautiful dedicated panel on the reverse for writing your messages. These colour-soaked cards are printed on sustainably sourced paper, with vegetable based inks. We put so much care into designing them so it’s a real delight to have this recognised by being finalists in this category!
The Louie Awards received a historic 1200+ entries from 228 different companies this year, so the competition was fierce. We are thrilled to be in the finals – a big thank you to the USA GCA! Winners will be announced on April 16th. Good luck to all the finalists!
]]>Aside from Roger la Borde, Su has published an exquisite book of fairy tales, designed fabric for Liberty, and exhibited work widely (including the prestigious RA Summer Show in London where we were thrilled to spot her instantly recognisable work). Read on for a Q&A in Jane's Words:
Where do you work? I work from my studio in Hastings, which overlooks the Old Town, with views of the sea and Hastings Castle on the West Hill.
What is your process and where do you find inspiration? I’m known for making artworks from old books and paper. My inspiration comes from the stories within the books. I’m particularly drawn to folk tales and fairy stories, and I find my books in charity shops and second-hand book shops across the UK.
With a scalpel blade, I cut out intricate words and pieces of paper from the pages to create my three-dimensional dioramas. My works are then photographed by a photographer, and it is these photographs that are licensed to Roger la Borde.
Which is your favourite design from your Roger la Borde collection? Roger la Borde release new designs and different colourways every year. I love the lockable journals, but my favourite products are the lasercut greeting cards. Their designs are so clever and intricately cut, I feel they really elevate my work. They are mini artworks in themselves.
Describe your work in five words: Poetic, Intricate, Detailed, Whimsical, Painstaking

]]>Hello Danielle! How long have you been working with Roger la Borde? I’m still a very recent addition to the roster of artists, I have just completed my first collection with Roger la Borde!
Where do you live? I currently live in a small town not far from London, but I tend to move around and work from different places. The drawings for the collection took shape across Nottingham and Barcelona.
Where do you work? At the moment, I’m studying animation on top of my illustration work and through that I have access to a group studio where you’ll find me most often, but at times I like to work from home or draw in a café. Luckily, I don’t need too many things and my set up is very mobile so I can work from anywhere!
Please tell us about your process. How do you create? Any favourite media? I love textures and I always try to give my work that tactile feel so I use mostly traditional media, like watercolour and pencils, for the base of the drawing and then in later stages I turn to digital methods to really finesse the illustration.
Where do you find inspiration? Whenever possible I turn to observation and pay attention to people around me. I love to capture small moments and give them a bit of colour. Other times I like to get a bit more playful and draw from imagination or mix the two worlds and come up with something sweet.
Which is your favourite design from your Roger la Borde collection? My favourite design from the Daisychain collection is the New Home card. It’s a sweet nod to my time living in Barcelona and being constantly inspired by the colourful buildings, windows and balconies always so full of life. It’s so lovely to see it transformed into a card and I hope it feels special to the receiver.
Which is your favourite product type made by Roger la Borde? I’m a big, big fan of the Lasercut cards and Quintet Concertina fold-out cards. Cards are such a lovely way of showing people you care and I think they absolutely should look and feel very special. I like to frame my favourite designs so they also take on a decorative role. The more textured and interactive the design the better!
Please describe your work in 5 words! Playful Sweet Tactile Sensitive Emotive

Where do you live? I live with my family on a small hill at the edge of a large organic farm in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand.
Where do you work? I worked part time for 21 years at a local college where I ordered all the art supplies for the students. I quit two years ago and have been working full time from home in my kitchen studio.
Favourite media? I used to use water colour pencils and scan my drawings into photoshop to clean up but late last year I started working in Procreate to speed up my process and I love how it allows me to be more adventurous with ideas.
Where do you find inspiration? I find a lot of inspiration from the farm life around me and also going on road trips around the country…. Lots of crazy cool stuff out there.
Favourite Roger la Borde collection? I find it really hard to decide between the dinosaurs and the whales… they are both a big passion of mine… probably the dinosaurs in winter and the whales in summer. I had admired Roger la Borde products for years and It is such a thrill to see my work featuring on their stationery! The biggest excitement was when I say a Pop & Slot Advent Calendar in a local gift shop! I let out a little shout and the shop lady asked if I was ok! Ha ha. (RLB note: This makes us so happy to hear!)
Favourite product? I think it would have to be the pop and slots! They are so clever and so much fun to put together.

The Henries Awards are the Oscars of the greeting card industry, and we are delighted to have made it this far:
"Each and every one has made it through a two-stage judging process to reach the finals, having been scrutinised by over 100 retail buyers, first online and then at this week’s in-person judging."
We would like to extend a big thank you to the judges, and a hearty congratulations to the other finalists! We have our fingers crossed and can't wait to attend the awards ceremony in October.
]]>Come along and meet the artists behind our stationery collections! Today we are saying hello to Carolyn Gavin, a Canadian (by way of South Africa) painter and Illustrator whose vibrant, playful work is a reflection of her joy- and creativity-filled life.
Carolyn is one of our most recent collaborators: Her first Roger la Borde card designs launched in January 2023. Our customers have immediately fallen in love with Carolyn's designs, and we will soon be expanding the range beyond greeting cards. Expect lots of gorgeous new products - including journals, letter writing sets, gift bags and more - featuring Carolyn's spectacular florals. Watch this space! In the meantime, here's a Q&A in Carolyn's Words:
Where do you live? I live in Toronto, Canada in an 131 year old Victorian row house. Also I spend some time in the winter months at my Belize home. (N.B. Carolyn Holds painting workshops in Toronto and Belize, as well as Portugal and Morocco! You can sign up here if you're looking for some painting adventures.)
Where do you work? I work from home in a lovely studio at the back of my house. It faces onto a small dog park, so its busy, but fun. When I’m painting large pieces I go up to our 3rd floor space where the light is good and there’s more room for an easel.
Describe your work in 5 words: Joyful, creative, inspiring, fun, unique

Q&A in Monika's words:
I was born and brought up in Swedish Lapland but moved to the UK many years ago and now live in Gospel Oak, North west London with my husband, two kids and an assortment of pets. I work from home. I've got a very tiny studio space that I share with the cat. Or the dog.
What is your process?
I draw (or paint) a big pile, then scan it all in and put things together in photoshop. Because what I see in my head never correlates with what I actually draw I tend to not think too much, just let it happen. Or I just get disappointed. Favourite media changes weekly. I will paint with water soluble gouache one week and say to myself "this is the ultimate paint" only to next week exclusively use colour pencils (and say THIS is the ultimate medium), and so it goes on, round in a circle.
Where do you find inspiration?
I have no idea. I think if I’m not drawing or making things I get itchy fingers and I get so bored I will get an idea (or be inspired by something... a thought, something I've seen) and then I make something. To alleviate the itch. When working to a brief, I draw the reflection of what I understand the brief to be. One things lead to another, it’s always hard to know how an idea came about, how a drawing came about. Boredom might be the source of inspiration? Drawing keeps the mind calm and also keeps one from doing boring stuff (such as cleaning, washing up, empty the laundry basket).
Which is your favourite design from YOUR Roger la Borde collection? What’s it like to see your work translated into stationery?
There are so many, I think RLB translates my pieces into lasercut cards and notebooks so beautifully. I do like stationery sets, so the Writing Paper Sets with envelopes and stickers are a joy, and and I love all of the lasercut cards too.
WOULD YOU RATHER:
Thank you so much, Monika!

Q&A in Katie’s words:
I live in Flagstaff, Arizona USA (The elevation is 7,000 ft and we get all 4 seasons here!) I work from a small studio space in our home. It’s only me, but sometimes my two dogs will come and keep me company.
I start most illustrations by drawing/painting bits and pieces on paper and then I’ll combine and add details using my iPad/photoshop. My favorite media is probably acryla gouache combined with watercolor and really nice colored pencils. I’ve always loved being outside- so I definitely love drawing nature scenes. I also used to be a florist - so flowers pop up a lot in my work.
Which is your favourite design from YOUR Roger la Borde collection? What’s it like to see your work translated into stationery?
I really liked the skinny dipping happy birthday card that we made, but I love seeing all the different ways my illustrations are turned into stationery products. The details that are added on RLB’s end (gold foils, lasercutting etc) are the most fun for me to see!
Which is your favourite product type made by Roger la Borde?
The gift bags and wrapping paper are so high end so I love those because I use them a lot. But the small journals and notecard sets are my favorite to give to friends, teachers, etc. as a special little gift.
WOULD YOU RATHER:
Thank you so much, Katie!

About the range: We adapted Jennifer Orkin Lewis’ (aka August Wren) exquisite, vibrant paintings of birds and florals, and turned them into intricate lace-like pieces of greeting card art. The rich colours and gloriously beautiful details are simply stunning. Each card is printed in full colour on the front, back, inside and outside (including the lasercut section). We’ve included a panel on the back for a written message, although we love to write on the inside so the message peeks through the front.
